CourseWork: Open Source Initiative

In June 2003, Stanford University announced the open source release of its course management system, CourseWork. Since this open source release of CourseWork, Stanford University has joined forces with three other institutions, the University of Michigan, Indiana University, and MIT, to develop a new Collaboration and Learning Environment. This community source software development effort, called the Sakai Project, aims to create open source course management tools and related software for the higher education community.

With Stanford's participation in the Sakai project, further development on the open source release of CourseWork version 3.0 has ceased and will no longer be made available.

For additional information, including instructions on how to download the Sakai code, please go to the Sakai Project web site at http://www.sakaiproject.org.
